AWAKEN

Awakenings by Emilio Fantin, curated by Gabi Scardi with Katherine Desjardins (Chicago) and proposed by the Itard Center Lombardy, constitutes a nodal stage in the artist's journey as he dwells on the forms of the sensible and immaterial existence.

At the heart of the project is the artist's long-term investigation of the states of aroused consciousness, dreams and sleep. This research has also led Fantin to the realm of coma, involving a series of people, all veterans of tragic trauma but capable of expressing life force and new horizons.
Thus, among the central themes of the work are the relationship with the body, experiencing situations of abnormality, and the possibility of building a second existence after a radical change.
Several events have taken place as part of the Awakenings project, in the U.S. and Italy.

The project was realized thanks to the support of the Italian Council (8th edition, 2020), a program for the international promotion of Italian art of the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
