Chronicles from the short journey, 15,289,000 minutes by Margherita Morgantin
Margherita Morgantin's traveling residency project, conceived and curated by Rossana Ciocca with Giulia Restifo, was created in collaboration with Trenord Srl and Casa degli Artisti di Milano with management by That's Contemporary, with the aim of enhancing the time of travel, the encounter with the other and the look at things.
Margherita Morgantin from August 29 to September 29, 2024 traveled on the regional trains of Lombardy through some of the 460 stations present in more than 420 municipalities, along the 2,000 kilometers of railway network, in search of relationships, in the frenzy of suspended time of those who transit from one place to another.
If 15,289,000 minutes is the collective time of those who travel every day, then it is necessary to clothe the time of travel, the encounter with the other and the look at things with value.
Chronicles from the short journey is an art project that develops over a period of time in those certain spaces to try to contaminate and be contaminated by that place that by its nature contains habits of those who travel, day by day, along the same tracks. A semantic echo project that seeks to establish, through rhythm, repetition, signs and traces, the relationships we establish with ecology understood as the science that studies the relationships between living beings and the organic or inorganic environments in which we live.
During the traveling residency, Margherita Morgantin set up a stop and data processing station in the Atelier Nagasawa studio at Casa degli Artisti in Milan, with a reception/transformation installation that brings together elements of the landscape and technical signals collected during train maintenance and repair inspections.
Here, to welcome visitors, the audio performance(Alternate Presence) made on the occasion of the opening to the public by the artist with Beatrice Goldoni and Simone Schiavo and the different installations(Station 1 - made with the assistance of Diana De Luca, Nuova Italia, A-Z, elevated observer #2 ). An itinerary that unfolds in stages and invites visitors to experience "their own" journey.
The project Chronicles from the Short Journey, 15,289,000 Minutes is accompanied by a publication (edizioni nottetempo) collecting visual-textual "annotations" of the residency. [Presentation scheduled for December 2024]
